LINKAGES AND INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS / TEACHING AND LEARNING CENTRE
"Towards Institutionalizing Excellence in Instructional Practice and Trainer Professional Development"
Welcome to the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) at The Eldoret National Polytechnic. As the institutional heart of instructional innovation, the TLC is dedicated to fostering a culture of excellence, ensuring that our trainers are equipped with the modern pedagogical tools necessary to mold world-class professionals.
Message from the Coordinator: Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC)
"Institutionalising Excellence in Instructional Practice"
“Welcome to the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC). At The Eldoret National Polytechnic, we believe that the quality of our graduates is a direct reflection of the quality of our instruction. The TLC stands as the heart of pedagogical innovation, dedicated to transforming our trainers into world-class facilitators of competence.
Our focus is clear: to institutionalise Continuous Professional Development (CPD) through CBET-aligned training, digital integration, and a collaborative community of practice. By empowering our academic staff with modern tools and global best practices, we ensure that TENP remains a leader in the TVET sector.
To our trainers, we are your partner in professional growth. To our trainees, we are your guarantee of quality. Let us work together to shape the future of technical education.”
Mr. David Chepkangor Coordinator, LIP / Teaching and Learning Centre
Introduction and Rationale
Established in October 2025, the TLC serves as a central hub within TENP dedicated to the continuous professional development (CPD) of our academic staff. By focusing on both pedagogy (teaching children/youth) and andragogy (adult learning), the TLC ensures that instructional methods meet the evolving needs of the TVET sector.
The TLC fulfills a critical mandate to:
• Institutionalize CPD: Transitioning from ad-hoc external training to systematic, cost-effective, on-campus professional growth.
• Bridge Skills Gaps: Ensuring all trainers master modern techniques, including Active Learning and digital integration.
• Enhance Employability: Aligning instructional quality with industry demands to ensure our graduates remain competitive.
Strategic Direction
Vision
To be the premier internal hub for instructional excellence, professional growth, and innovation in teaching and learning methods across the TVET sector.
Mission
To empower TENP trainers with relevant competencies and a culture of continuous learning, ensuring high-quality, CBET-aligned instructional delivery that enhances the employability of trainees.
Our Core Mandate
Operating under the Office of the Deputy Principal (Academics), the TLC coordinates with all academic departments to provide:
• Mandatory Professional Development: Designing elective and mandatory CPD programs aligned with national trainer licensing requirements.
• New Trainer Induction: Providing comprehensive orientation and mentorship for newly recruited staff regarding TENP’s administrative and CBET procedures.
• Instructional Design Support: Assisting in the preparation and review of high-quality digital and print teaching and learning resources.
• CBET Integration Hub: Serving as the central point for aligning instructional delivery and competence-based assessment with national standards.
The Five Pillars of Excellence
Our service delivery is built upon five inter-linked operational pillars:
1. Trainer Capacity Building: Workshops on active learning (e.g., the BOPPPS Model), classroom management, and specialized pedagogical skills.
2. Community of Practice (CoP): Promoting peer learning, structured Master Trainer mentorship, and synergy across departments.
3. CBET Alignment: Training focused on Portfolio of Evidence (PoE) development, industry engagement, and curriculum interpretation.
4. Technology Integration: Support for blended/online learning, Learning Management System (LMS) utilization, and digital resource creation.
5. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL): Facilitating micro-research on training interventions to support evidence-based instructional improvement.
Quality Assurance and Feedback
The Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) maintains high instructional standards through a robust, data-driven Quality Assurance (QA) framework. This ensures that the delivery of TVET programs remains dynamic and responsive to student needs.
The Trainee Feedback System
The TLC implements a standardized, anonymous digital Trainee Feedback System designed to evaluate trainer effectiveness across all departments. This system provides a transparent platform for trainees to share insights on instructional clarity, engagement, and resource utilization.
Data-Driven Professional Growth: Trainer Needs Analysis (TNA)
Participation in TLC programs and the subsequent implementation of feedback is formally integrated into our Trainer Needs Analysis (TNA). By utilizing a digital Trainee Feedback System, the centre conducts data-driven Trainer Needs Analysis (TNA) to identify and bridge specific pedagogical and technical skills gaps. This systematic approach ensures that all academic staff transition into Master Trainers, ultimately enhancing the quality of education and the employability of TENP graduates.
