The Principal Secretary for TVET, Dr. Esther Thaara Muoria, represented by Hon. Frank Mukuna, delivered a powerful address during the 14th Annual International Research Conference at The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP), highlighting the government’s commitment to transforming Kenya’s technical training landscape through flexible and practical learning models. Dr. Muoria, through her representative, reaffirmed that the Ministry of Education continues to roll out the Modular Curriculum Program, a flexible framework designed to equip trainees with full employable skills within six months. “Our goal is to ensure that every trainee acquires practical, market-ready skills. The Ministry remains committed to maintaining a 70% practical and 30% classroom training ratio,” said Hon. Mukuna on behalf of Dr. Muoria. She also underscored the importance of the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) initiative, noting that it plays a vital role in empowering individuals who possess skills gained through experience but lack formal certification. “The idea behind RPL is to empower people by assessing and recognizing their existing skills, and then certifying them formally so they can use those skills to earn a living,” she emphasized. Dr. Muoria further called upon innovators and researchers to align their creativity with social impact, ensuring that every innovation nurtured within the TVET ecosystem reflects care and value for humanity. “Every innovation we nurture should reflect care for the people. Innovation must go beyond technology — it must touch lives and contribute to community well-being,” she added.
